Update: Version 1.1 uploaded – adds the ability to enable/disable +1 buttons for pages and/or posts and adds the ability to disable +1 buttons on specific pages or posts (a la ShareDaddy).
Adds the Google +1 button to your website’s posts. Has a variety of options for button style and position, and exposes a wp_plus_one_button action for custom integration with the theme or other plugin.

This is a great plugin, but I have one small problem. I uncheck ” Show the +1 count with the button” and save it, but the count still shows on the page. When I go back to the settings, the box is checked again. I’ve tried different sizes but the same issue occurs. Any suggestions? See website above for example.
It should save that setting – make sure you’re using the latest version of the plugin, and if you want to send temporary admin account details to me@jacobwg.com, I can take a look at what’s going on, if you want.
I hav eth esame problem. I remove the checkmark for the “Show the +1 count with the button” check box and save the settings. The checkmark comes right back on it’s own and the number box is still there. Suggestions? Otherwise I really like the plug-in.
Thanks.
Nevermind, after trying it 20+ times, it finally worked. I didn’t do anything different, so I dont know what the deal it.
Thanks anyway.
I’m working on an updated version that should fix this issue and be a lot easier to use with drag-and-drop placement of share buttons and support for Facebook, Twitter, and whatever else makes sense in a single plugin.
I am having same issue with unchecking the count option and it not saving. Will you email us when you have addressed this?
In the meantime, I guess I’ll keep trying… and hope it finally saves.
Thanks!
Christine
It’s some kind of browser cache issue – it may be a little while before the update is out (it does things totally differently than before, so it’s not a simple fix), but some people have reported the box saving if you retry saving repeatedly – you might also try a different browser – it’s working for me on Google Chrome Beta channel.

Not bad! Pretty cool plugin and it works fine!
Thanks for your work, Jacob!
But I have something to say… my friends using IE9 can’t see the buttons.
It’s visible for me in IE9 – do you have a link to the problem site?
I can see +1 buttons at http://flaviosganzerla.com/blog/05/fotografia/como-digitalizar-negativos-pb/ in IE9, if that’s the site you’re referring to.

Know why this may have added about an inch of footer to the right hand side of my website?
Seems to have disturbed the layout.

Hi, do I need to insert the google javascript into my theme file manually after using your plugin?
As long as the plugin is enabled, it should output the required JS automatically – just have to use the do_action tag to display the button.
You can see the documentation for that tag on the plugin settings page, BTW.
We’re on the WordPress.org Plugin Repository now! http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-plus-one/
Thanks Bro !
Yeah, this one.
There’s about an inch of what appears to be footer to the right hand side of the page.
It most definitely appeared only after I installed the plugin.
I’d love it if you know why this may of happened, I’m otherwise very happy with the plugin. Go get it ppl.

It looks like this for me on IE9, Chrome, and FF4 – what browser are you using?
http://awesomescreenshot.com/076e45w70
Yeah the post looks perfect, but about an inch of dark grey (same as the footer) has appeared to the far right of the page.
It sort of scrolls to the right now. Didn’t do that before.
i’m using osx versions of ff4, chrome, safari and opera. I’ve tried them all.

I just tried installing it, but it’s not showing up on my site no matter what settings I try. I am using the latest version of WordPress and the Graphene theme. Any suggestions as to why it’s not showing up?
I talked with Craig about this via his website’s chat and we narrowed it down to an incompatibility with Safari and Google AdSense code (that broke the +1 button).
Thanks again for all your help, Jacob – great support for this plugin! By the way, I posted a link to you on Facebook & LinkedIn and at least one person has already downloaded it. Now I’ve downloaded the update and turned Google AdSense back on in the theme settings – and your button isn’t showing again in Safari. Not even the indent this time. It does show up in Chrome & Firefox, after about a 5 second delay after the rest of the page loads. Thoughts?
Still related to that iframe security hack that AdSense is doing – it is causing Safari to stop executing JS from Google… if turning the “output in header” option on doesn’t fix it, then there’s not much you can do on the +1 front – perhaps you could see if anyone has a fix for the AdSense code in Safari.
Thanks for sharing!
Slightly good news – it may have just been a lag after I updated the plugin, because now it is showing up on most pages, but not the home page for some reason. I do get the indent though. I think I’d rather give your button a chance to shine instead of AdSense for a while. Thanks again!
It seems to be working. My computer’s been functioning in a bit wierd way. It stayed there although I’d cleared the cache several times.
Then I checked my site on another PC and everything was fine.
I installed it and tried to modify its appearance. It stayed in the top left corner no matter what I set. Finally I disabled and uninstalled. To my astonishment it was still there. Like a ghost, haunting my site till the end of digital times.
What can I do? The plugin is uninstalled but the icons are there and functioning.
It doesnt work for me. I installed the plugin on my wp but It doesnt appear yet (www.dzyara.com) . Does It Take Time to appear? What can I do to fix this ?
It should display immediately – it is displaying on your website at the moment.
Is it ? I dont see it. Neither with Chrome nor with Firefox. I deleted the cache and still nothing !
I’m seeing it at http://www.dzyara.com/la-casbah-dalger like this:

Oh ya it was when I tried the widget. But now as I’m removing the widget it doesn’t appear anymore even if the plugin is still activated ! Whats the deal ?
Keep the widget removed and I’ll take a look.
ok, done ! Let me know !
Thanks for your help and congrats for this great job !
The JavaScript is not showing up at the bottom of the page – most likely your theme does not have the required
wp_footer()function call in footer.php – http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_footerI just updated the plugin (v1.3.2) to add the ability to put the JS in the header instead of the footer, so as soon as WordPress.org catches up, there will be a new update available with that option.
Thks a lot !
Hey Jacob
I have put it on a new site im soon to launch (in french – see the link)
it all works like a joy – many thanks for this
however, it is very very slow in appearing on the page : you only see it after about 7 or 8 seconds, which almost renders it pointless
This I presume is to do with my location in Paris, France?
But can you think of a way to speed it up?
No way that I know of… the buttons are loading slowly as you described on my website as well and were not that way earlier today – I would guess that it’s an issue on Google’s side of things. This plugin simply writes a JS include tag from Google on the page, so it’s up to Google to be fast here.
Thanks Jacob
I have started a quick email to Larry and Sergey…
For me its too slow
But maybe it hasnt been cached at all Google datacenters yet…
Lets see in a couple of days
Once again, great plugin – many thanks
Paul
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for your feedback, Jacob, looks like it is working trough IE9 as you can see it in my blog but 3 of my friends couldn’t. I’ll take a look at this again, and if there is still this problem I’ll let you know.
Strange… I believe you might have to be signed into a Google account to see it (I may be wrong)
Hi Jacob ,
Very thank for you plugin that come so fast.
However after I’ve updated to version 1.3.2 I’ve found some error about style of button when I’ve changed it from ‘standard’ to other type.
And I think it might be come from code between line 175 and 183 which can make dupplicate ‘><g:plusone' tag.
Hope it helps.
Do you have an example URL? I’m not seeing this on my tests.
Sorry I don’t have it now.
I choose medium size of +1 button and set position to bottom left. Then the button appear with standard size not medium size.
I’ve found that it go thought wp_plus_one_button function with $css value. After that it will set value of $tag at line 194 (of version 1.3.3) but at line 201 $tag will be appended with plusone tag again.
Thanks for that catch! I fixed it and some other bugs and version 1.3.4 should appear as an update shortly.
Thanks Bro !!!
I’m loving the plugin, but I can’t figure out how to use CSS to align it properly. Basically, if I float it to the left it wraps images around it – which I don’t want since all my posts have an image at the top. And if I don’t float it to the left the other social buttons get out of alignment resulting in a crappy look.
Can you help me with that?
Sort of “fixed” it myself by adding a FB Button plugin after it – that somehow makes content start on a new line. Only problem now is that the new FB button is also on a new line (different from the +1 button), and if I float it in line with the other buttons the content wraps again.
Can you set it up to the broken version and give me a link?
Moin,
I installed the plugin and activated it, but nothing is showing up ?!?
Wordpress 3.1.3 …….. what I have to do?
BR
Marco.
You have a link to your site?
Hey Jacob,
Is there a way for me to invoke your plugin manually using a php function for custom positioning of the button?
Cheers,
Faisal
Yep, it’s
<?php do_action( 'wp_plus_one_button', $url, $style, $css); ?>– see the plugin settings page to find out what the args do.Jacob Hi,
Thanks for creating this plug in.
I have two issues:
- I don’t see the button on FireFox 4 on Mac.
- I was trying to use the manual insertion () and got the following error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 69582 bytes) in /home/content/…/wp-plus-one/wp-plus-one.php on line 204.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Shay
The memory error is probably related to the number of plugins you have installed and not necessarily the +1 plugin in particular – try disabling all plugins except for the +1 plugin and let me know if the error still occurs.
I’ll look into it anyway to make sure it’s not my plugin.
Please consider making this plugin XHTML compliant in the next update.
There is a solution posted by Trixmifix at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/blogger/thread?tid=4912886e69084414&hl=en
Thanks and keep up the good work.
I’ll look into it… thanks!
Hi Jacob:
Thanks for sharing the plugin, it installs and configure but do not see on my site. That may be happening?
Greetings
Hey! From your site’s code, it looks like you’re probably using another plugin (not mine) – you can find mine at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-plus-one/.
Let me know if it still doesn’t work for you. Thanks!
Nice plugin – but i got some trouble with it…it works fine on my blog, but when someone hits the buttons, it just counts for him. If I take a look at my google profile i see voting history and everything seems fine. But when i logout or youse another browser and go to my site, the counter says 0 at erverypost…i have no idea what the problem is. Just installed your plugin, no modifications or anything else – maybe someone knows what is wrong, thank you!
Not sure why that would be, but I don’t think it’s related to my plugin, but is rather something on Google’s side of things. My plugin simply inserts the code that Google provides into your site, so it shouldn’t affect the count.
Awesome plugin! I choose yours after looking at a small handful of others on WP. After implementing the plugin I noticed that the Google Plus 1 button was not visible in the blog section unless you actual clicked on the individual blog posts. Is there a way to have it show up in the “long count” blog or could this be a possible update to a future version? If it helps the blog is here http://boxjumping.com/blog .
Thanks for your work in creating a good plugin!
I just updated to plugin to display on excerpts with the ability to hide from excerpts if desired – it will be version 1.4.1 and should show up in the plugin repo shortly.
Thanks!
Jacob
“Not sure why that would be, but I don’t think it’s related to my plugin, but is rather something on Google’s side of things. My plugin simply inserts the code that Google provides into your site, so it shouldn’t affect the count.”
! Thanks for your reply and your nice plugin!
Yeah I think there it’s a google related problem. I just tested out the other plugins, but with the same result, but i’ll take yours, cause it is just the best
Glad you’re finding it useful.
Works fine now! Maybe it just takes some time to appear. Thank You so much!
hi awesome plugin…just not sure how to add in my template file …u have mentioned this but can u give any example for a standard
thanks
ameet
The documentation is on the bottom of the settings page – you would have a tag like
<?php do_action( 'wp_plus_one_button', $url, $style, $css); ?>– if it were in a display loop, it would be something like<?php do_action( 'wp_plus_one_button', the_permalink(), 'tall'); ?>Hi nice looking plugin and works off the bad on single posts. But if I try and add it to my categories page, whether in the loop of out (to test) I get:
Fatal error: Maximum function nesting level of ’100′ reached, aborting!
With something like:
On the debug output I have infinite calls like this:
10 0.2012 24181168 call_user_func_array ( ) ..\plugin.php:39511 0.2012 24181200 wp_plus_one_button_echo( ) ..\plugin.php:0

13 0.2014 24182864 call_user_func_array ( ) ..\plugin.php:166
14 0.2014 24182896 wp_plus_one_button_echo( ) ..\plugin.php:0
15 0.2014 24183448 apply_filters( ) ..\wp-plus-one.php:223
16 0.2014 24184632 call_user_func_array ( ) ..\plugin.php:166
17 0.2014 24184664 wp_plus_one_button_echo( ) ..\plugin.php:0
18 0.2014 24185280 apply_filters( ) ..\wp-plus-one.php:223
Ok fixed, this function:
function wp_plus_one_button_echo( $url='', $size='', $css='', $count=true ) {//echo apply_filters( 'wp_plus_one_button', wp_plus_one_button( $url, $size, $css, $count ) );
echo wp_plus_one_button( $url, $size, $css, $count );
}
and
do_action( 'wp_plus_one_button', the_permalink(), 'tall');should be
do_action( 'wp_plus_one_button', get_permalink(), 'tall');Thanks for catching that… updated and will appear as v1.4.2 shortly.
I think your plug-in is the best of its kind. Thanks for making it. On my site, though, I can’t seem to change the checkbox for showing/hiding the count. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Thanks again,
Dave
Check which version you’re using – it was broken in a previous version (works for me in plugin version 1.4.2)
hii can you add shortcode option for this plugin to work on widgets section?? 10x
I’ll look into it… are you wanting a +1 button widget or a +1 button shortcode?
The two options are appropriate for me. What you do will be fine! Also in Explorer neer the button appears to me {‘lang: iw’} is there a way to solved it? thank you
Do you have an example URL for the Internet Explorer bug? Also, what version of IE are you using?
i’m using internet explorer 8 and the site example is speakers-institute.org
There’s an easy fix: you’re not using my plugin…
The markup on that website is from another +1 plugin, not mine, and the one you are using is incorrectly adding the lang part on the button code and not in the script tag.
You can download my plugin here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-plus-one/
did this!! working fine 10x, if you have time to modified it to the widget area it will be great. 10x again.
So, let me get this right: you would want a widget that displays a single Google +1 button that would +1 the current page? And you could choose the style and type of +1 button in the widget settings?
yeaa you got it right bro.
Widgets have been added in update v1.6
Hi,
Is there a way when after the user clicks the +1 button, he is redirected to another website which we can configure?
Thanks.
I don’t think that’s possible… the way the embed code from Google works is that the button is an iframe, so no chance that my plugin could modify its behavior.
Hi!
Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but after uploading and activating this plugin, I don’t see settings window, at least not in the way shown on screenshot (the one which was in the folder with ‘wp-plus-one.php’).
I can edit code manually, but I can’t get much out of it. In fact, I’m stuck and can’t get it stop showing the +1 button on excerpts, can’t change its position etc.
+1 button works just fine, but I need to move it and get it off excerpts. Can I (and how) do it manually?
Thank you!
You can find the settings page under Settings > Google +1 Button… the direct link would be site.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=wp-plus-one
Let me know if you still cannot find it.
Oh, silly me. Here they are!
Thanks for you help!
No problem!
Hi,
I’ve tried adding the button in the middle bottom of the post but it keeps going to the left or right.
is there a way to fix that?
You’re going to have to use the custom CSS feature in order to center the button as the plugin cannot anticipate the layout of your site… set the position to bottom, no-float, and add any required custom CSS.
messing around with custom css trying to get the button to float left or center… not matter what code I add… it does not move. Help!
Thx for the great plug in!
Do you have an example link? Thanks!
Hey Man,
Great job on this. One thing, trying to use manual insert in my loop. However, the args don’t seem to be working.
I’ve tried it like this:
and like this:
None of them seem to take effect.
Any ideas?
It removed the code tags….
Neither work.
Can you paste the example tags without the <?php part or paste them in a http://pastie.org/?
I’ve tried each of these… even a few other variations…
http://pastie.org/2134405
none of them work. I just want to get it to show up in tall format.
The first one is the correct way to add the button and is working for me… I found a separate bug, though, where you could not change the options (small, tall, etc.), but that should not affect visibility. Where are you trying to add the tag in your theme?
Also, could you add the tag and send me an example URI?
Thanks!
The style change bug will be fixed in an update shortly.
It’s visible, just not ‘tall’.
http://blog.flykavoo.com/
I changed the other like and tweet buttons to match, but the client would really like it to be tall.
Okay, great! That bug where it doesn’t accept the style option will appear as update v1.4.3… the update has been submitted, so it should show up in the Dashboard soon.
Correction – the bug will be fixed in version 1.4.3.
fantastic. Thanks man.
Hi, great plugin, but i have a problem… The plugin is installed and activated. However i only have a blank space. I´ve cleaned the cache and it’s the same in every browser.
Looks to be a language issue (‘pt’ by itself is not supported by Google)… I’ll be out of town for the next week, but I’ll try to take a look at it later.
Ok. Thanks.
Oh… there are several ‘pt’ (coded in ‘pt’) sites with the +1, so maybe it’s not a language problem.
You have an example of another ‘pt’ site? Google has pt-BR and pt-PT options, but no listed pt option…
Thanks for the easy plug-in!
One question- I use another plug-in, Wordbooker, to insert a facebook share button at the top of my posts. When I installed your plug-in, it ended up putting yours above the other one (yours is on the top left, the other is below and to the right, both are above the text):
http://www.charlieglickman.com/2011/06/leaning-into-discomfort/
Is there a way to put both of them on the same level?
Thanks!!
It looks like the +1 button is currently displaying at the bottom of the post… can you move it back to the top and see what happens then (let me know).
Appreciate the plug-in and your patience with all the requests.
Works fine for me except that it doesn’t respect toggling off the +1 Button Count option. I deselect (no checkmark in the box), Save Settings, but then the checkmark is back and the count is still showing up in the posts.
Curious why that is or am I not understand the point of that option.
Thanks.
I cannot duplicate that error, but several people have reported it… I’ll look into the issue. What browser and version are you using?
Looks like it may be a problem on Google’s side of things… do you have an example URL of it not working?
http://mikeklassen.com/2011/06/episode-2-heres-a-novel-idea-connect-with-your-connections/
I’m using Firefox 3.6.18 on a Mac and get the same result in Safari.
Thanks.
Okay, I would think that it’s probably a cache issue of some kind… I am able to change the option on my server at the moment, however Google doesn’t seem to be respecting the option at the moment.
Update 1.5 has been pushed to wordpress.org, so that may fix the issue.
Hi love your idea but its not working on my site
the button appears but you get the dreaded exclamation mark appear after a sec of displaying the like
whats going on here?
have tried firefox and ie and form two different accounts
really would like to know why its not working
Yeah, that’s something on Google’s end. Google is not letting your site be +1′d for some reason. I don’t know if it is something about the domain name, or if Google has flagged your site for some reason, but as far as my plugin goes, it is generating the correct markup.
Do you have any example of custom CSS that can be used with this plugin ? I’ve tried a lot of CSS code and nothing changes !
Easiest example is:
border: 1px solid black;though that’s not very useful IMO.
Is there any way to redirect with this plugin? Kinda like a reveal with FB pages.
Thanks!
Not at the moment… that’s something that would have to be implemented on Google’s side of things.
The plugin has been updated to v1.5 and includes redirects.
Gracias por el Plugin de +1! Te felicito y por supuesto ahi va mi voto!
Gracias por voto!
or is it “Gracias por votar”… trying to remember back to Spanish class.
Nice plugin but the actual text that appears on Google+ is just the first few lines of the page (e.g. menu items in my case). Shouldn’t it show the excerpt of the post that you +1?
Yeah, it should, though at the moment, Google is not giving control to the website as to what text it chooses for the excerpt (you might try setting the description metatag and seeing if that changes anything).
Yeah, my bad. It uses the description metatag. Mine wasn’t set properly. Plugin works great now. Thanks
Ahh so the button will be show in every single page right? I wonder if there is away to make something like in floating nav bar..
You could do something like that with a custom integration with your theme.
really love this plugin, but I also have the twitter button, is there anyway to make them go one on top of the other?
You could do that with the custom CSS option.
Really LOVE this plugin. It is definitly the best WordPress Google +1 Plugin available.
There is something I do not understand.
1. My friend rated a +1 for a article. When he looks at his computer the counter says “1″.
2. When I look at my computer at the same counter on the same page the total counts says “0″.
Am I doing something wrong here or does google have zome kind of major leg?
Hope you can help me.
Thank you!!!
Kind regards,
Jarno
Glad you are finding the plugin useful!
You should be doing everything correctly on your part – the actual button is an iframe loaded to a page on Google’s site, so if there is any kind of delay or lag, it would be on Google’s side of things.
Hey Jacob,
Thank you!
Can you have a look at [redacted]
Because I think everything is doing OK?
Again: Thanks you!!!
The code is all correct (I’ve removed links to your site due to the adult nature of the content).
Dear Jacob,
No problem you removed the links.
Thank you for watching. Now the votes seems to be visable… So I guess there is just a leg in the Google voting system.
Thank you again for watching and this great plugin.
Kind regards,
Jarno
Hi Jacob,
I’m having real problems with this and every other +1 method I’ve tried to get the button on the site. I’ve tried your plugin, other plugins, and even adding it all manually myself to the template. Every time I just get a gap where it should be.
http://www.cornwalltangsoodo.co.uk
It’s putting a small spacer in front of the text where the button should be, but it’s almost like it just won’t pull the script from Google. Any ideas would be gratefully received, I’m trying to stick to your plugin as you seem to be one of the more helpful authors out here
Cheers,
Adam
What browser are you using? It shows up just fine in Google Chrome (looks like http://awesomescreenshot.com/0cagj2e51).
How odd. I’m using Firefox Portable and IE 7 (don’t ask…) and I’ve tried it on my android phone with the inbuilt browser and Firefox for android.
I guess I’ll try from home later if I can and see if it’s just a very unlucky combination of phone browser limitations and a very over-zealous proxy server at work.
Thanks
Man – I just went through and installed the combo pack of the twitter, Facebook and Google+1 to give people an option… anyway to incorporate the other 2 into this?
Super job guy…
I’ll give it some thought… glad you’re finding it useful!
Hi Jacob – great plugin. I have installed it on all of my sites but unfortunately it doesn’t work on 3 of them. http://wobbleboardinfo.com/ http://my2persontent.com/ http://getridofahangoverfast.com/
Do you think this is an issue with the themes as I use a different theme for each website? It has been suggested that I should uninstall and then re-install but there doesn’t seem to be an uninstall option. In wp-admin your plugin doesn’t show up under installed plugins – only under “Settings”. Any thoughts on a plan of action?
Hi Jacob – just fixed the problem by checking the
Output the +1 JavaScript in the header (in the footer by default)
Why do you think this was necessary?
cheers
Allan
Ah, your theme probably doesn’t include the required
wp_footer()call infooter.php.Your +1 wordpress plugin does not work on iOS devices. I did some searching , you might want to read this http://carloscar.se/tag/ipad might explain why and how to fix it. Would be great if you could as I think yours is otherwise the best plugin so far for this!
hi Jacob,
great plugin. Is there a way to add the button into a widget instead of (or as well as) to the main page?
I may add widgets in the next release… thanks for the suggestion!
I’ve added widgets in update v1.6
Hi Jacob
I am using Socretes theme and it will not display in any browser. example here
http://www.internetmarketingspecialist.co.nz
would this be the theme do you think and is there anything i can do. PS do i need to insert code or something or just activate the plugin?? cheers
I’m seeing the +1 button correctly on your site in Google Chrome – what browser are you using?
I see the button on his page with any browser but Chrome (last version). So it’s meaby some Chrome option that must be enabled or disabled.
Reply myself, solved after delete coockies, etc.
Glad you got it figured out.
Jacob,
I have installed your plugin on one of my websites and it works great. I look forward to any updates you make.
I have one suggestion, would it be possible to include a position choice like Top and Bottom (with all the options like float, etc.) in one of your updates? The reason I’m asking is with long pages and posts it would be nice to have the button on top and bottom so readers can just click on the button when they get to the end of what they have just read.
Of course that’s if they like what they read.
Thanks,
Ernie Hodge
Great suggestion – I’ll try to get that implemented in an update soon.
That option has been added and will appear as update v1.7.0
Hey Jacob
Great plugin…. but there is one thing that is not working for me, its the new feature redirect…. it does not redirect after clicking on in
I have put the redirect URL in the field but nothing happens after clicking on the +1 button
The redirect feature is what I was looking for…. could you please help me out make it to work?
Can you give me an example URL? Thanks!
Hi Jacob, I wonder if you know that someone else is selling the same type of a WordPress plugin for $37 ?. That makes yours extremely valuable. Thank you for a great job! It works perfect! I was just wondering how to add an in-line text next to the plugin offering free report after clicking. Thanks. Donation on its way.
Darek
Got the donation, thanks! It’s much appreciated.
So, what exactly are you wanting to happen with the inline text? Display something after the user clicks the +1 button?
Thanks!
You are welcome Jacob,
) because the +1 image doesn’t appear directly below the post, there’s another plugin output area in between them. I could probably use php code and hooks but I’m not sure how to add my text to it… In-line with the +1 image would look better but below or above is fine too. You can open any post on my blog – http://www.checkthishouse.com and scroll to the bottom of the post. Thanks again.
I’m not expecting anything to happen, I’d like to encourage visitors to click if they like the post and let them know that if they click they can download my free report. I can’t position that text (or rather I don’t know how
I’ll be improving the JS framework soon and that should allow for custom applications like that.
yes sure
here is the example URL you requested
http://blog.odkryjjakpoderwacdziewczyne.pl/
I have tried different redirect URL:s but nothing happens when clicking on +1, regardless of which URL i put in as a redirected URL
Yeah, it’s a bug – the temporary fix is to check the box in settings that outputs the script in the header… I’ll be revising the redirection method to fix this issue soon.
Checked in the box “Output the +1 JavaScript in the header (in the footer by default)” but that didn’t help…
This function was exactly what I was looking for, too bad it’s not working… hope that you can fix it pretty soon
Just a suggestion..
The actual repository name for your plugin is wp-plus-one
The Title on the plugin page is WordPress Google +1 Button – Advanced Plugin
Searching for WordPress Google +1 Button – Advanced Plugin returns way too many results. Searching for wp-plus-one returns your plugin #1.
Here’s my point. When using add a new plugin within WordPress I use the search function. Having the exact repository name really helps with the search. Maybe you could put in somewhere on the plugin page so people will know what to search for within WordPress.
Thanks
Bruce
Thanks for that suggestion – I’ll add it in the next update (it’s controlled by the plugin README text).
Hi Jacob,
Thanks for creating this easy to use plugin. Works great. However, I do have a few pages where I don’t want this button to show. Is there any way to specify with a shortcode or some command to disable this +1 button? Thanks for your help.
There should be a metabox on the post edit page that allows you to disable the +1 button on individual pages and posts.
Jacob,
I’m using version 1.6.0 and when I disable the count and update the settings, the checkbox reappears checked. The count will not go away no matter what I try. Any ideas?
Richard
I’ll look into this.
I’m trying to figure out the correct CSS (and where to put it) so the Google+ button is above my TweetMeMe button instead of next to it. Any help you can offer a newbie? Thanks so much!
http://www.isthisreallymylife.com/
A really “cheating” way of doing is to set the position to top with no float and then paste the following into the custom CSS box:
left:540px; position:relative;Hi Jacob,
thank you for this great plugin. I could place the +1 button on every post, but on my homepage it doesn’t show on the posts, although I did not mark the option “don’t show on the homepage”. I can’t figure out where the problem is. It did show on the previews.
How can I fix this problem?
Thank you very much in advance for any assistance!
Bernadette
This probably has something to do with your theme as it is probably outputting the homepage articles in a non-standard way (as the plugin is working on the previews which are probably using WordPress’s excerpt functions). Try enabling the hide on homepage and see if all the +1 buttons disappear as that would indicate that the plugin is working, but your theme is doing something special.
I tried the plugin but it slowed down the website so I disabled it. Recently Matt Cutts tweeted about modifications to the snippet to reduce load times. Does the new update include the new snippet?
Do you have a link to that tweet? In the next update, we’ll be switching to using the async loading code that Google released this past week.
Hi, first of thanks for a great plugin. everything works fine and looks great.
I have one request, how about an option to place the button in multiple positions. For example at the bottom AND top of posts/pages???
This feature will be implemented in an update soon… thanks!
Thanks for the speedy reply, great to hear this is planned for a future update.
Lookin forward to it
It’s been added and will appear as update v1.7.0
Hey Jacob,
Really cool plugin however I’m having issues with it. It displays all fine but when I hit the +1 it opens up a dialogue box called “+1 button errors” no idea why (my google account hasn’t be blocked/banned or anything like that either).
Cheers,
Alex
The +1 button tag is
<g:plusone href="http://www.mind-body-project.com/http:/www.mind-body-project.com/psychology"></g:plusone>which obviously is an invalid URL… Let me look into why that URL is being used there and get back with you.Cheers!
Hi Jacob
Thank you for a great plugin.
Like some of the readers have written I have problems getting the redirecting to work.
hi.. i use this plugin too.. but i have a little problem.. the plugin doesn’t work with easy wp seo and wp seo from yoast..
if i active this plugin, that two plugins doesn’t works well..
What exactly is the problem? This site is using Yoast’s SEO plugin and is functioning fine.
Hi Jacob
There seems to be some sort of incompatibility between your great plugin (which we use in other sites) and our theme at http://www.antiaginggroupbarcelona.com
For any reason whatsoever it has crashed backend and now wp-admin is blank (actually white) and nothing else. We don’t know how to fix it, myabe mysql? and how? (site is running on wp 2.8 bcs designers were brilliant and modified code so we can’t upgrade. Yeah, brilliant.)
http://pastie.org/2303297
I’d really appreciate any help on this,
Cheers from Spain,
Elena
Looks like you’ve fixed this (if not, delete my plugin folder from wp-content/plugins).
I will fix this issue in a future release (basically disable custom post type support if it is not available).
You really need to update from 2.8, though, as there will be unpatched security holes in 2.8 that are problems (hacking) waiting to happen.
This issue shouldn’t happen anymore after the 1.8.2 update.
Fellow Texan here, transplanted to San Francisco. Love your plugin, thanks for making one with easy options and the key features.
I messaged you on Twitter a couple of weeks ago about an issue I am having with it not showing up on my main page. I’m running WordPress 3.2.1 with WordPress theme Twenty Eleven 1.2.
I have the plugin working great on all of my pages/posts but it does not show up in the sidebar using the widget. I believe all my settings are correct, is there something I’m missing?
Here are settings screenshots:
http://flic.kr/p/ab8HvZ
http://flic.kr/p/ab8HHP
Thanks so much for the help and the otherwise great plugin.
-justin
Yep, it’s a bug in the widget code… it will be fixed in just a second (and will appear as a new update).
Should be fixed now… update will show up as v1.8.2
Hi Jacob,
I have been using your plugin since the beginning, but today’s update messed up my site and i had to deactivate ur plugin and now everything is ok. I dont know why or what did the problems.
thx for the great plugin
Darko
Do you have any more details about what went wrong? Was there a particular error that you saw?
Thanks!
Hi jacob. Installed newest version of your plugin (august 2011) but I get the following error when I click the +1 button:
https://plusone.google.com/u/0/up/start/?et=ad&type=po&hl=en#77270089
Do I need to configure something in settings?
Thanks.
- Don
It should work out of the box… do you have an example URL where you’re seeing the error?
I just reactivated the plugin > http://donpower.me/
Click on the G+1 button and let me know if you get the 404 error. Thx.
It’s working for me…. I just +1′d the first article on the page.
Hmmm… I’m stumped. Any ideas why I’d get a 404 and not you?
I’ve got no idea… maybe it’s something on Google’s side of things (the plugin and tag are functioning correctly after all). You’ve probably already tried, but you could try clearing your browser cache and/or logging out and into your Google account.
Thanks for the awesome plugin! will you be adding the ability to edit the $url that gets the +1 from the plugin setting page?
If not, how would I specify the url if I am only inserting the buttons via the settings?
Check out how I integrated the Google +1 Plugin on this demo for my WordPress theme… http://demo-squeeze-plus-one.leadtheme.com/ .
I also gave you a shout out in an article I wrote about that demo site on http://leadtheme.com
Thanks again for the awesome plugin!
Thanks!
how i can center the widget button? any custom css?
Yeah, that would be custom CSS… do you have an example URL?
Can you give an example of why and where I would redirect somebody away form my site when they +1 a post? Is that a recommendation from Google?
Thanks,
Erik
I don’t actually use the redirect personally, it was just a feature request. I believe it is being used to show a “thank you for +1′ing this page” kind of thing. It’s not a recommendation from Google, per se, but it’s something that their JavaScript API allows you to do.
Thanks Jacob! Very nice this plugin! Congratulations! Great job!
Hi Jacob,
I’m trying to add this plugin to my blog. I have installed it and made changes, etc but it will NOT show up on a new post. I believe I have done everything correctly. Can you help?
Thanks,
Annette
You have an example URL?
Hi Jacob,
I have installed the plugin and activate it. But can’t see any change on my website. Removed cookies but still won’t appear anything.
Thanks
You have an example link?
Its http://www.redfiredesign.co.nz/blog
What exactly are you doing for hosting? Lots of the HTML content is not standard for WordPress – feel free to email me at me@jacobwg.com if you need any more help!
We resolved this via email – his theme was missing both the wp_head() and wp_footer() calls. Edited the theme and the button displays.
Hi Jacob
Sorry to trouble you but I’m new to WordPress & its plugins. I just added the Google +1 button to my new site on every page of
http://www.eurofestivals.co.uk/
It should appear to the right at the top and to the left at the bottom of pages. However, it doesn’t seem to be showing anywhere.
Any suggestion would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Gerry
Your theme probably doesn’t have the required
wp_footer()call infooter.php– you can either edit your theme to include that, or uncheck the “Use the (faster) asynchronous JavaScript” option on the +1 button options page (Settings > Google +1 Button).Hi Jacob,
I love the plugin, just had a quick question as i was reading comments to see if it was already answered, I was wondering on SSL enabled sites, everything appears fine on the front end it doesnt disable the ssl, but in the admin with the plugin enabled it disables the ssl..
Any ideas on this kind of issue…
When does it disable SSL? On updating settings or on another form submit? Or for every page when it’s enabled?
I’ll look into this.
The plugin is great except that cannot save the deselected the “Show the +1 count with the button.” I save the changes and when it refreshes, it is checked still.
If you’re using the latest version and want to email temporary admin access details to me@jacobwg.com, I’d be happy to take a look.
Hi Jacob,
I’ve installed your plugin but for some reason I’m getting the “red button” error. My sites in good standing, not banned or anything. I’ve checked that it’s not ABP or No-Script. Not sure what else to try. Any ideas?
Regards,
John
Check out this Google PageSpeed results page – it indicates that your site is returning a 500 server error when Google tries to request the page.
It could be a plugin that you have installed that is trying to do something different with the site when the Googlebot accesses the site.
Do you mind sharing the list of plugins you have installed? I’ve had reports of similar problems from a number of people, so maybe if we knew what plugins you were using, it might match what others are using.
Hi Jacob,
Here’s my list of plugins:
akismet
azindex (makes a-z page of posts)
broken-link-checker
copy-compass (for seo)
custom-contact-forms
exclude-pages (hides pages from menu view)
google-analyticator
google-analytics-for-wordpress
google-sitemap-generator
jetpack (wp.com stats)
jumpple (monitor uptime)
login-lockdown (prevent repeat login attempts)
nrelate-related-content
ozh-admin-drop-down-menu
platinum-seo-pack
secure-wordpress
sexybookmarks
w3-total-cache
wp-db-backup
wp-optimize
wp-paginate
wp-plus-one
wp-scanner (scan site for security issues)
wptouch (adapter for mobile site access)
I also tried disabling all other plugins, and took out robots.txt just in case. Same result.
Hope you can help me with this — I really like your plugin.
Thanks,
John
Could you request a few more pages from your site with the Google PageSpeed tool and then email a copy of your Apache and PHP error logs to me@jacobwg.com? The apache one will probably provide the most insight.
Hi Jacob,
Oh it’s fixed man!! When I checked my error logs, as you suggested, I found this error message . .
” PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_pagenavi() in /. . (path) . . /footer.php on line 10 ”
. . and in footer.php I found a single line of some left-over code from a buggy plugin that was installed and then deleted some time ago. I removed the code and your plugin worked immediately.
Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. I’m one happy camper
Nice! Glad it’s working for you.
It works with http://www.stylishblog.com.au
Does not show up at
http://www.stylishblog.com.au/category/kens-blog-posts/
or
http://www.stylishblog.com.au/category/canberra-photo-tips-by-ken-fife/
Do you have a link to a page with it working?
The button works great on the WordPress site, but the article itself look terrible in Google Plus. Any idea what Google is collecting from the plugin or from the site?
I believe that it is pulling whatever would be in the page title tag and meta-description – you could use a plugin like Yoast’s SEO Plugin to edit the text that way.
Hey lovely plugin everything works great but I want to custom display it how would I call it in the functions.php ?
if (function_exists(‘plusone’)) {
wp_plus_one_button();
}
else {
do_action( ‘wp_plus_one_button’, $url, $style, $css, $count, $redirect);
}
please let me know if you know what I mean?!
I’m not quite sure what you’re asking… how are you wanting to integrate it with functions.php?
Whats the best way to integrate it in functions.php?
Depends on what you’re trying to do – what do you want to do with the +1 button?
I want it to display inside
facebook
twitter
google +1
and I really want to use your plugin
Thanks
inside “” “”
if(function_exists(‘wp_plus_one_button’)) {
$output.= wp_plus_one_button(‘wp-plus-one-style’,'medium’);
};
all good this what i needed
Hello!
I think could be interesting show +1 button on category pages too, because other social plugins like twitter or fb shows the buttons there.
For who wants to add it (suggestion to jacob too) I’ve added this line to “function wp_plus_one( $content ) {” on wp-plus-one.php:
“( function_exists(‘get_post_type’) && is_category() && get_post_type(get_the_ID()) && get_option( ‘wp-plus-one-show-on-’ . get_post_type(get_the_ID()), false ) == true )”
Hope this helps somebody!
I’ll look into this when I get some time.
Hi ! I’ve got a question, i don’t find the file you’re talking about ? I’ve the same problem for the google plus button in categories ! Thanks for working, i’m not a developper, i’m not english but i try to understand !
What are you trying to do that is not working? Do you have a link to the place where I talk about the file?
Thanks!
Sorry, I missed that this was a response to Raul. The file is located at wp-content/plugins/wp-plus-one/wp-plus-one.php.
I should have an option for this soon, though.
Many thanks
Hey Jacob,
the button shows up and lets me click on it I get +1 but after about 20 seconds it turns red… any suggestions?
this is there error from IE9 console
SCRIPT5009: ‘Math’ is undefined
d=1, line 13 character 200
Hi Jakob,
thanks for this great plugin. I realy like it. But there is a problem with my xhtml blog. There are a lot of validation failures. You have any suggestions how to could solve this?
there is no attribute “href” or there is no attribute “callback” or element “g:plusone” undefined
You can ignore it for now and I’ll look into alternate ways to display the buttons.
I was wondering if it’s possible to show the +1button as popup and also make it semi-mandatory to get the visitors to click it. (Unless the visitor clicks the button, he has to wait a few seconds)
Sort of like at http://plusonepop.com/
It’s possible with custom coding, but requiring a user to +1 content before it’s viewed will be viewed by Google as a spam tactic and is at the very least borderline unethical. Not saying it can’t be done, but I probably won’t be adding it into my plugin.
I have two things I would like to do.
First, I would like the Icon to appear above my tweetmeme button on the right side of the post/page. I saw what you told the woman in another email thread to do but I am at a loss as to how to change the position to “top” “no float” . I see the custom css place to add the additional info you gave her and added it to the css box but without the other change it made the icon disappear altogether.
Second, I would like to edit the script so that all my plus 1′s will go to the home page of the site instead of individual pages. How do I modify the script to do that?
Thanks in advance for your help. I have tried every google plus 1 button I could find (at least a dozen of them) and none of them would display correctly the way I wanted until yours. With a little tweaking it will be perfect.
Also, I have another question. Do you know how to get the google plus 1 URL for a site or page? I have another social media widget that uses the URL of every site it supports as the identification means and it works great for all the other social sites, but I could not figure out what the Google Plus 1 URL is for my site and the support site is off line for a while as the developer had a melt down.
Thanks Again,
Duane Overturf
So, the +1 button currently displays to the right of the tweetmeme button – and you’re looking for it to display on top of the button?
Top no float is the first position dropdown – the first one is for the top of the post and the second one is for the bottom. So you would need to set the first dropdown to be “No Float”.
If you want all of the +1 buttons to contain your homepage URL, you will need to find the following lines in
wp-content/plugins/wp-plus-one/wp-plus-one.phpinfunction wp_plus_one():and change them to be:
Do realize that this is a hack and will be replaced by any updates to the +1 plugin that you apply in the WordPress dashboard. I may look into adding an option for this use-case.
I’m fairly sure that there’s not a “+1 url” for a given webpage, but I could be wrong about that.
Jacob
I have another request… Did you ever create a shortcode for the plugin that could be used in a html, java, text sidebar widget so it could be displayed next to other social icons? I like the +1 on certain pages in the sidebar but it doesn’t look great there all by itself. I would love to combine it with facebook like and a tweet button in one html, java widget using the tall icon for all three next to each other.
Thanks for any help you can give on this.
I haven’t gotten around to a shortcode yet, but it’s on my todo list.
I have installed this app 3x’s each time following the exact instructions and it is still not working… I am using wordpress 3.2.1 with a world theme generator for a theme layout. Is there any conflicts in using the 2?
It appears that the +1 button does appear on your website, but you don’t appear to be using my plugin…
Hi Jacob, just got your plugin and activated it on my site, so far with no issues. I have to admit I had to dig for it before I found your site but it was well worth it. Will see how it goes and I’ll make a post on my blog about it. Thanks
Glad it’s working for you!
Jacob
Hi Jacob,
What is the benefits of this google+1 plugins or buttons in my wordpress website?
Is this similar to a social bookmarks plugins?
You can think of the +1 button as Google’s equivalent of Facebook Like buttons – see http://www.google.com/+1/button/.
Google has also said that they will be factoring +1′s into their search algorithm – which is one reason why this page performs well in SERPs.
I should probably clarify that this page had a lot of +1′s when it was blog.jacobwg.com/… Now it’s the 301 redirects that are sending traffic to this page.
Feel free to +1 this page if you’re feeling like supporting this plugin.
Hello Jacob, Thank you for this magnificent plugin, it works right out of the box.
I wonder – is it possible to be selective about which posts on a blog get the +1 button? Is there a code snippet to insert in the HTML-part of a post that will make the button appear when in the setting “Add +1 to posts” is disabled?
Regards,
Paul
Right now, I don’t have a shortcode option, however there is an option to disable the +1 button on specific posts (it’s a post editor metabox), so that works if most of your posts are supposed to have the button. I may include another option for adding the +1 button when it is disabled.
Thanks!
Jacob
Hi Jacob
I posted on here back in sept, i thought the issue would of resolved but anyways do i was hopin you might have a suggestion…
to as why on ssl enabled sites that the plugin breaks the SSL in the admin, not the front end, and its disabled on the dashboard page, plugins page, and users profile page, settings ect, pretty much everywere except for frontend..
Good day Jacob. I’m relatively new to all things WordPress, yet really appreciate your plugin! I’ve hit a snag, due to my lack of knowledge most likely, and reached out to the creator of my custom theme for help. They in turn, stated to reach out to the creator of the plugin, hence this post. I cannot get G+ to appear on my homepage. I’ve seen reference to the code in the settings that you mention above, but have no idea where to place that. code. (The last time I messed with code, my website went down so I’m gun shy….) As an aside, Google plus shows up on all other pages/posts that I select via settings, it’s just the Homepage that I cannot figure out. (Here it is TheRoofCleaningCompnay.Com)
Guidance for a middle aged rookie please?
Thank you!
Ted,
It’s most likely a theme issue, but if you’d like, feel free to email me temporary admin account details to your site (my email is me@jacobwg.com) and I’d be happy to take a look.
Thanks!
Hi Jacob,
Firstly, thank you for this plugin.
Secondly, I added it manually directly into the code using the short codes. It works almost 100%. I’m having 2 problems. 1 the image associated with the blog post doesn’t show up, it just shares the logo. 2 most of the post ‘text’ shows up correctly but then there’s a few that show the navigation text first then followed by the actual post.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
I’m not 100% sure how Google picks the image, however I believe the text comes from the meta description tag – you might look into a WordPress SEO plugin to edit that.
Hi, I’m using your plugin and I’m liking the functions. By now, Google provides the option to link your Google plus page to your site. Do you think that feature could be added to your plugin?
Do you have a link to any documentation on that? I can’t find anything about that in relation to the +1 button…
